Easiest Elderberry Syrup

It’s that time of year — runny noses, scratchy throats, the whole bit. This recipe takes minutes to make and has kept cold season symptoms at bay for our family for the last two years! I will say, I have one child who drinks from the bottle and one who says there is nothing more gross on earth (but yet he still asks for it every day because he knows it makes him feel better — ha!). I love the taste — but you’ll have to see what you think!

My favorite thing to do is to make a hot tea with it — just pour a little in your favorite mug and top with hot water. You can add a squeeze of lemon if you want, but I love it just the way it is. I give my kids about 10ml/morning (with the exception of my daughter who will run and hide and drink half the bottle — LOL.) I’ll leave the recipe below and a couple links for the things you’ll need to order from Amazon! Enjoy!

4 cups dried elderberries (organic — order them on Amazon here)

16 cups filtered water

2-4 dried cinnamon sticks (I use these from Amazon)

fresh lemon peel

large piece of fresh, peeled, ginger (I like to lightly crush the pieces to open them up some)

whole clove (2-3)

3-4 cups raw honey

Directions:

Add all ingredients (except the honey) to a large pot and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 40-60 minutes. It will reduce some. Strain into a large bowl and while it is still warm, add honey. Stir until fully combined.

Store in a glass jar that you can seal. (I use these — they’re great for gifting, too!)

Enjoy!
